The rider and the elephant
Jonathan Haidt described the human mind as a rider sitting on top of an elephant. The rider is our rational brain — planning, analyzing, deciding. The elephant is our emotional brain — powerful, instinctive, and ultimately in control of where we go.
Most organizations talk exclusively to the rider. Strategy decks, KPIs, change plans — all rational, all logical, all insufficient on their own.
The Emotional Culture Deck (ECD) was created by Jeremy Dean of Riders & Elephants to give teams a way to talk to the elephant. To surface the emotions that drive behavior, connection, and performance.
These two Specialist Courses take that methodology and apply it where it matters most: leading how your people feel, and leading them through change.

ECD Emotional Leadership Development Day 1
Build and establish the emotions your organization needs to succeed. You work through Leading Self, Leading People and Leading Teams, and leave with a leadership charter you built yourself.
ECD Emotional Change Strategy Day 2
Recognise and shape the emotions that surface when everything moves. You bring one real change you are navigating right now, and every activity applies to it.
Certified in both. Digital badges included. On the ECD certification pathway from day three.

Six cards and a conversation nobody at your table has had before.
Leading Self
Intention setting, the Know Yourself Handbook and the Difficult Conversations Handbook. You map the emotions that drive your leadership and the ones that block it.
Leading People
The Leadership Handbook and emotional contagion. You define how you want your people to feel, then learn why your mood is more contagious than theirs.
Leading Teams
The full ECD Leadership Workshop and Canvas. You build a leadership charter, the way you would build one with a real leadership team.
Facilitation practice
You run an activity out loud, for real people, and get feedback on it. This is the part most courses skip.

Daniël has facilitated culture and leadership work across the Dutch Caribbean since 2010. He is an ECD certified consultant, endorsed by Riders & Elephants to deliver these Specialist Courses, and chairs the World Scout Committee. He has run the Emotional Culture Deck with boat crews, bank executives, school leadership teams and government directors.
